Police calling in excessive force is nothing new these days. It just happened again locally. This time the civilian who experienced an overdose of justice is a 75 year old woman. With a mental problem. Who they know.
I understand that police officers need to take steps to protect themselves. But, doesn't it seem strange to call out SWAT ("...a nearby special response unit...") for 1 lady? It strikes me as a severe case of overkill, and it does nothing to give me confidence in those who are supposed to serve and protect us.
The really ironic thing is that I am well known as quoting Rule 37 from Schlock.
What? Excessive force? You apparently haven't tangled with a 75yo lady wielding a .38 lately.

You must not know that town very well. Bethel is a cesspool of filth, crime, violence, and debauchery the likes of which the world has never known. Clearly you don't understand how horrendous a place it is.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I've had a run-in with the Bethel Park police in the wee hours of the morning, while heavily armed. It went as smoothly as could be expected, however even when I responded in the affirmative that I was armed when asked, he called backup. Backup consisted of two other officers, one of which being a K-9 unit. What should have been a very quick and simple experience turned into a longer-than-needed ordeal. The officers were all quite polite, and I had some good friendly conversation with them. But even that seemed like overkill to me.
